ALPINE wins railway renovation contract in Macedonia

FCC's Austrian subsidiary, ALPINE, in a joint venture with its German partner, H.F.WIEBE, has signed a contract to renovate 25 km. of a rail line connecting the north and south of the Republic of Macedonia.
The budget for the work is 7 million euros which will be completely financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The contract has a term of twelve months and includes the replacement of ballast, substitution of the old wood ties with concrete ones and the laying of 12 km of single track from Tabanovce to Kumanovo in the north and from Miravci to Smokvica in the south of Macedonia.
This connection is part of the Tenth Pan-European Corridor that will connect central and southern Europe by more than 2,500 km of track, starting in Salzburg and ending in Thessaloniki in Greece after passing through Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia.
Participation in new European corridors
FCC and its subsidiary ALPINE have extensive experience in the construction and renovation of railways on the European continent. FCC recently won a number contracts to renovate different sections of the Simeria-Brasov line in Romania which is part of the Fourth Pan-European Corridor.
