Promoting connectivity in the UK and Ireland

FCC Construcción carries out civil engineering projects in the United Kingdom and Ireland that help to improve connectivity, mobility and economic development in these regions. Its expertise encompasses the construction of road infrastructure, bridges and airport facilities of great technical complexity, and it participates in strategic initiatives aimed at optimising land and air transport networks, thereby meeting society’s present and future needs.

Roads

FCC Construcción has carried out a wide range of road infrastructure projects in Ireland and the United Kingdom, such as the widening of the M-50 urban motorway from two to four lanes in each direction, which forms Dublin’s ring road around which access routes to the city – and in particular to the city’s airport and port – are organised.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, it has designed and built the widening of the A-465 motorway in Wales. This is a key piece of infrastructure for the region’s mobility and connectivity, acting as a hub for economic growth.

Bridges

FCC Construcción has contributed to infrastructure development in the United Kingdom through projects such as the Mersey Bridge, which is 2,250 metres long and features three central cable-stayed spans with a maximum span of 318 metres; it won the 2014 PFI European Infrastructure of the Year Award.

It was recognized as one of the world’s most important infrastructure projects in 2018.

Dublin International Airport north runway

Airports

Dublin Airport has two operational runways: the main runway 10R / 28L and a cross runway 16/34 that only comes into operation when certain weather conditions occur and on certain occasions to reduce aircraft traffic on the main runway.

The new runway "North Runway" designed and built, has a length of 3,110 meters and is located in the north area of the airport and parallel to the existing main runway 10R / 28L. The main objective of the project is to decongest aircraft traffic on the main runway and increase traffic and air frequency at the airport.

In addition, within the Dublin airport facilities, FCC Industrial has developed the renovation of the airport's fuel supply facilities and hydrant system.
