The Ministry of Public Works convened on May 11, the third informative meeting with residents and businessmen of the communities of Altos de Capira, Villa Rosario and Villa del Carmen, where the characteristics and scope of the work for the execution of the Beaches Corridor project, Section 1: La Chorrera - Santa Cruz.
The call was attended by residents, community leaders and merchants, interested in knowing the details and the impact that this work will have on these communities.
The Director of the Office of Special Projects of the Ministry of Public Works (MOP), Arcelio Tejada, announced the generalities of the project "Expansion to six (6) Lanes - Corredor de las Playas (Section 1: La Chorrera - Santa Cruz) "Which consists of 32.65 kilometers; At the same time, he stressed that in the district of Capira, specifically in Loma Campana, a viaduct with a length of 1,128.00 meters will be built, and its maximum height is 50 meters above the ground.
Additionally, the work includes the rehabilitation of the existing road in the stretch that includes the La Chorrera viaduct, which will serve to provide greater fluidity to local traffic of businesses and residents of this area.
Engineer Tejada said that this third informative meeting is part of a series of calls that are developed with residents and businesses that are located along the project "Corredor de Las Playas", which starts at the exit of the Autopista Arraiján - La Chorrera and culminates in the district of San Carlos.
Previously, the contractor company has carried out the delivery of flyers to residents, local authorities and community leaders to attend these informative meetings.
About the project:
The widening of the Pan American Highway to 6 lanes has an approximate length of 32.65 km. This length also includes more than 7 kilometers of rehabilitation of the existing road.
One of the main works are the two main roads with central separation by barrier New Jersey, three lanes per direction of circulation of 3.65 m each, outer shoulders of 3.00 m and internal shoulders of 1.80 m.

It is important to note that this project has an approved Environmental Management Plan, which includes measures to control air quality, noise and vibration, soil protection, protection of water resources, protection of flora and fauna, among other aspects. Additionally, all the measures required by the Resolution of Approval of the EsIA and the current regulations have been included in the Monitoring, Control and Supervision Plan; as well as a Wildlife Rescue and Relocation Plan.
The project impacts 1,130 square meters, located at the edge of the protected area of Chame. However, the vegetation found within this area is not typical of a mangrove forest.
Benefits:
The design of the work responds to the new needs and demands of the direct and indirect users of this main line of connection between the city and the interior of the country. Relieving traffic among the surrounding towns, reducing the time spent on transportation.
The districts of La Chorrera, Capira and San Carlos will have a greater economic boost, which will benefit the entrepreneurs who are on the road, obtaining a greater commercial movement. Turning the area into an important employment focus where it is estimated that more than 1000 direct jobs are generated for the population, which contributes to the dynamism of the economy in the province of Western Panama.
