FCC and INADEH hold dressmaking course for the communities in the La Valdeza quarry in Panama

The fourth dressmaking course held by FCC Construccion in conjunction with INADEH (National Institute of Vocational Training for Human Development), for the benefit of residents in communities close to the La Valdeza quarry in Panama, comes to a close.   On this occasion, thirteen women from communities, such as 19 Abril and La Valdeza, received classes specialising in how to make curtains and valances.

The course lasted approximately one and a half months and was led by the instructor Berta Reyes, from INADEH, who taught them different sewing techniques, including those for traditional curtains, Roman blinds, pleated blinds, valances and yo-yo pillows, amongst others.

On behalf of the course attendees, the teacher, Dilsa Gutiérrez de Samaniego, expressed the importance of these courses for the people in the area and thanked FCC and INADEH for working together to develop activities that foster entrepreneurship.

Ana Kanyelis, Coordinator of INADEH in west Panama, said that in order to continue fostering their professional development, a course focusing on entrepreneurship will soon be opening and she encouraged them to move forwards with their goals.

On behalf of FCC, Carlos Pantoja, head of FCC Industrial in America, stated that he will continue supporting these types of initiatives that seek to encourage the development of residents in areas close to the projects, so that with the sewing techniques learned, they are motivated to start up their own businesses.

For several years, FCC has been involved in the development of communities close to the La Valdeza quarry, promoting different initiatives such as:  sporting events, road repairs, building sports facilities, environmental campaigns, campaigns on noise reduction and health days, amongst other activities.
