FCC moves forward with the construction project for the PowerCo gigafactory in Sagunto (Valencia)
FCC is moving forward with the construction project for the PowerCo gigafactory in Sagunto (Valencia). Civil works on the first block of the industrial complex are currently being completed in order to install the first production block and its logistics buildings.
This is a key battery plant to power the electric utility vehicles of the Cupra, Volkswagen and Skoda brands, as well as other European plants such as Audi, SEAT and Porsche. The factory is flexible and designed to also produce NMC (nickel, manganese and cobalt) batteries and, when they arrive, solid-state batteries. The industrial buildings are currently under construction, including production blocks, logistics areas and auxiliary buildings.
FCC Industrial is executing the contract for the installation of air conditioning production facilities (FIDIC Silver) and the contract for electromechanical installations (FIDIC Red). Within the Sagunto battery manufacturing plant, the contracted works and activities are essential and key to the development of the plant itself, which covers an area of more than 130,000 square metres and is one of the largest industrial battery plants in Spain and among the most important in Europe. The activities to be carried out include medium and low voltage installations for battery production, as well as conventional electromechanical installations (PCI, public address system, ventilation, extraction, nitrogen, compressed air, helium, other gases). It also includes the supply and assembly of auxiliary installations for all contractors.
For its part, FCC Construcción is constructing two buildings, FA1 and FA2, within the plant itself. These buildings are part of the first phase of the project and construction of the gigafactory dedicated to the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries.
